Hero’s welcome for Wendall

Accompanied on the lunchtime flight from Johannesburg by his family, Wendall was driven in an open top safari truck from the airport with more than two dozen other vehicles behind.

The US$200,000 winner appeared keen to share the spotlight with fellow contestant, Vimbai Mutinhiri, who arrived on the same flight with him and joined the impromptu parade through the streets of Harare. Vimbai, 24, was voted off the M-Net reality TV show in the penultimate week.       

BIG Brother Africa winner Wendall Parson returned home to jubilant scenes at the Harare International Airport on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old pilot was mobbed by dozens of screaming, flag-waving and vuvuzela-blowing fans after emerging from the arrivals terminal just after 1PM local time.

Hundreds of lunchtime shoppers along the route cheered as the convoy snaked its way along Julius Nyerere, Kenneth Kaunda, Jason Moyo, Samora Machel and Leopold Takwaira Avenue before coming to a stop at the Avondale shopping centre where scores of fans waited to catch a glimpse of the Big Brother pair.

Wendall, Vimbai and Comrades Marathon winner Stephen Muzhingi are expected to meet President Robert Mugabe for lunch on Thursday, before attending a home coming party at a Harare nightclub on Saturday.

Wendall was named joint winner of the hit TV show which ended its 90-day run on Sunday, along with Nigeria’s Karen Igho.
Property tycoon Phillip Chiyangwa, who mobilised US$300,000 for last year’s runner-up Munyaradzi Chidzonga, said he was in talks with other businessmen to give gifts to Wendall and Vimbai.

Confidence Haugen, Ghana’s female representative evicted from Big Brother Africa Amplified contest, yesterday denied reports that she went nude during her stay in the Big Brother House.
