Anatomy of a perfect BBA Housemate

A lot has to be said about somebody giving up their life and freedom to spend 91 days under the eye of Big Brother’s omnipresent camera. But we’re happy that they do, and we love the housemates that have kept us glued to our screens 24/7.
So while guts, bravery and some degree of insanity are a given for any housemate wanna-be. Seven seasons in, here are a couple of things we think make up the anatomy of a perfect Housemate.

Wit
Wit is often what gets you noticed amongst your housemates and a trait that will make you loveable on screen too. Remember Uti, he could fire off one liners like nobody else. He came second in season 4 and was later victorious in the All Stars season. Wit is what remains, long after the masks have come off…

Wild ways
Tatiana’s wild ways certainly had some jaws dropping. What a free spirited soul! Who could forget her skinny dipping, her raunchy dancing and her constant affection? Her shrinking hemlines definitely made for a hot topic of discussion, why else did she stay in the house so long?
Being prim and proper’
Between Munya and Paloma, it’s difficult to decide which Housemate was more proper than the other. Although permanently on the moral highground, Paloma’s groundedness gave everyone something to relate to. On the other hand, Munya’s cool demeanour and movie-star looks made him extremely endearing.
Off-beat
Sometimes raging hormones make people do things that are a little out of the ordinary. Anyone willing to play between the sheets in public is a little offbeat, and that’s what got Ricco noticed, especially by the ladies. As for Quinn, or S’gelemba as he called himself, we’ll just blame it on the music!
Extreme emotions
There’s bound to be countless altercations when unknowns are suddenly up in each other’s faces. It starts with a confrontation, raised voices and then on occasion it even gets physical. Suddenly people have something to say about you. But, if you were planning to take a leaf out of Mzamo, Hannignton or Lotus’ book, you might wanna hold off on getting pushy because Biggie doesn’t tolerate violence!
Good looks
You don’t always have to be loud and at the centre of it all. Being easy on the eye, is such a blessing because even if audiences don’t remember much about your character, they’ll remember you if you have a hot body like Jen or amazing hair like Hazel. And if you’re blessed with genes like Uti’s, you might even go on to win!
Well there are other memorable traits too, like Kaone’s self –promotion and Kevin’s T-shirt campaign. After all, if you don’t believe in yourself who else will?
Just make sure we all catch the drift in your manifesto. A special mention goes out to all our linguists, those housemates who have their own brand of catchy phrases, think Code and Karen, last season’s winner.
This year, the reality show will also welcome two new countries — Liberia and Sierra Leone — for the first time, while Ethiopia bows out of the game with Mozambique taking a new role which the organisers say will be announced later.
The countries participating in this year’s show are Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
